TOTAL RESPECT FEDERATION

RAMADAN: TOTAL RESPECT IN
SOLIDARITY WITH MUSLIMS WHO ARE
MIGRANTS OR ON THE MARGIN OF
GENDER NORMS

RIVIÈRE-PILOTE, MONDAY 27 JUIN 2016
PRESS RELEASE No. TR2016-15B
_

The month of Ramadan began on the 6th of June. Truthful to the values of the French Republic, which incorporate a secularism in which all religious minorities have their place, TOTAL RESPECT FEDERATION wishes all the best to the Muslims of France, on the mainland as well as overseas (in particular in Mayotte and Reunion Island).

Like Christmas and Yom Kippur, the month of Ramadan is a high point in the lives of millions of families. Nevertheless, sometimes the family reunions it involves are anticipated or experienced by people far from home or on the margins of gender norms. The ones know that they cannot be there (for example, when they are migrants). Others can find themselves stigmatized at them, especially when they are single women, HIV positive or LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people).

David Sar AUERBACH CHIFFRIN, president of TOTAL RESPECT, has stated «We express our solidarity with single women, HIV positive and LGBT people of Muslim background or religion, wishing them all they would wish for Ramadan.»
